PKM Weekly - 2024-09-21
A look at the latest Personal Knowledge Management PKM news from the past week.
Hi Everyone,
It feels like it was just yesterday that I was posting last week’s updates and yet, here we find ourselves together again. Where is the time going? Each week seems to be going by faster and faster. Having said that, yesterday in my neck of the woods a diesel tanker truck caught fire and created chaos - luckily no one was hurt and the authorities dealt with the fire and ensuing chaos / traffic very quickly. Kudos to the Dubai fire and police service. With that being said, let’s see what’s in store for us this week.
Video of this week's update:
CAPACITIES
Tablet (iOS / iPad and Android) App
The iPad and Android tablet version of the app is now available. This is currently only available to Believers for now, but I am sure in in good time it will be released to others too. If you are a believer, check your email on how to download it or get in touch with the Capacities team to obtain access - it is worth it!
If you want to see more of the Tablet App in action, check out this video.
I tried Capacities for Mac: My First Impressions
Here is a glimpse into how I try new apps and catalogue them for reviewing on the channel. For every new app I try, I either dismiss, shelf, or schedule it for a review). Feels like I dismiss a lot of apps, so I thought to take you through that thought process.

How to Organize Your Content in Capacities
Beth posted a couple of videos on the Capacities YouTube channel on how to organise content in Capacities.
The first video looks at Tags and Collections. As your space grows, tags and collections can help you organize your content. Here's an introduction to them both, and a video to show you the differences between them. Video.
Part 2 looks at Object Dashboards and Queries. Every object type has a handy object dashboard where you can choose to organize how you access your content through some curated, pre-made views. If you are a Pro or Believer user, you can even pin your queries to this dashboard too! Video.

Although most of the effort in going into the mobile app, the team were able to push out a few improvements and fixes.
We decreased the font size of the panel header for very long node names
The sorting for at-mentions no longer penalizes nodes with title expressions, but we slightly boost nodes whose name (not title) start with the same string that you searched for
Ensure that recently created nodes show up in the at-mentions immediately
Fix bug that prevented newer Vimeo videos with longer IDs from embedding
Why Your Notes Aren’t Working for You (And the One Shift You Need to Make)
A great post by Ev on Why Your Notes Aren’t Working for You (And the One Shift You Need to Make). Ev looks ate a few key points to guide us on how why she abandoned traditional methods for a new way of organising my notes that has helped me take more notes, remember & connect with my ideas and build a library of ideas that have been actually useful.
Check it out here.
Knowledge Alchemy Course by Ev
Sticking with Ev, she is launching a new course in October called Knowledge Alchemy. It’s a note-taking course where I’m sharing all of my insights on building a note-taking/knowledge management practice these last four years. It's not Tana specific, but of course I use Tana for my system so it's perfect for anyone who is also a Tana user.
You’ll learn how to:
Create magic from your notes and turn them into powerful, one-of-a-kind insights.
Build a practice that helps you think deeply and explore ideas with curiosity.
Set up a simple system that keeps your notes organised and easy to find when you need them (without overcomplicating things).
The doors officially open on the 13th of October. But anyone on the waitlist will get early access + a little discount. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in you can sign up to the waitlist here.

PKMS with ADHD?
A great Reddit post on which PKM app to use if you suffer from ADHD.
Recently my adhd has gotten bad enough to the point I am feeling the need to write everything down lest I forget my plans, things I did today, etc. But I've never managed knowledge in my brain and have no idea how to even start. I've looked into a lot of the apps, but have just found myself bouncing between them all because that's just what I do haha.
Curious to hear anyone else's experience of PKMS with ADHD and to know how they are managing it so I can attempt to get my shit under control.
Some brilliant responses which were I think are helpful and insightful to ADHD and non-ADHD users alike. Check it out here.
That’s all for this week. Thank you very much in advance for reading and I look forward to bringing you more PKM news next week.
