PKM Weekly - 2025-02-08
A look at the latest Personal Knowledge Management PKM news from the past week.
Hi Everyone,
We are back with another episode of PKM Weekly. Let’s see what is in store for us today.
TANA
What a Week
What a week it has been for Tana. From the release of Android mobile app (edit coming soon), the implementation of edit in iOS and opening the doors to Tana for everyone, on top of raising another USD 14m. Well done to the Tana team for their achievements.
Getting over 1,000 votes and 400 comments on ProductHunt during launch day is amazing. There is still time to vote to make Tana product of the week/month, so if you haven’t already voted, please do take a couple of minutes to do so. As a bit of an incentive, Tarjei already did an ice plunge, at 2k votes, Grim will karaoke, and at 3k votes, Olav will get a tattoo.
Tana - Put your notes to work with voice and AI | Product Hunt
Release v. 393-395
Even with the above, the team put out another set of great updates, including:
Improved - We now support o3-mini in most AI commands, such as Ask AI and AI Chat. We currently only offer "reasoning effort" set to the default, which is medium. This has improved cost per token over GPT-4o, which about the same performance. However, reasoning tokens might cause costs to increase in total. Tana AI
Improved - We've improved pasting of lists. We've had several edge-cases related to ordering and indentation that should now work much better. If you are still experiencing paste results that look bad it would be very helpful if your bug report includes a reproducible case. The easiest way for us to fix it, is it you take your example and go to https://evercoder.github.io/clipboard-inspector/ and paste it in there, then copy the information from "text/plain" and "text/html". Copy paste in tana
Improved - Users will get a message now when the event system gets disabled with more details, and it will tell them they will have to refresh Command nodesAi command nodes
Improved - We now have an option to manually transcribe audio from audio files, available in the right click context menu when a node has audio Voice memo
Improved - Downloading an image will now use the images file name, not "Image" Node types
and more.
Meeting Notes in Tana
Ev shows us how she uses Tana + AI to save 5 hours every week on meeting notes.
Stop getting distracted in meetings trying to capture everything. No more spending hours processing notes afterwards. I'll show you my complete system for preparing agendas by speaking, creating meeting notes in under 30 seconds, and using Tana's brand-new feature to chat with your past meeting notes.
In this video she shows:
How to prepare for meetings just by speaking
My one-click AI command for creating and sending meeting notes in under 30 seconds
A brand-new Tana feature that lets you chat with your meeting notes
CAPACITIES
Latest Update
New update coming on Monday (I believe), so unfortunately we will have to wait until then to see what the devs have in store for us. Check out their social media/in app update to find out what is new.
New favorite note-taking app
Wesley Anna “I'm introducing you to my new love (*a lil nervous, a lil shy* ho ho)...Capacities! I've been exploring different PKM & productivity apps this last year and after waffling back and forth between Notion and Obsidian for note-taking, I discovered this blessed, beautiful chef's kiss piece of work and have been finally enjoying (and mostly not overthinking!!) writing for the first time in years.”
LOGSEQ
Update schema-version format
current schema-version is just an integer (logseq.db.frontend.schema/version
)
this PR change it to logseq.db.frontend.schema/SchemaVersion
and able to parse string like "<major>.<minor>"
into SchemaVersion
for RTC part:
graphs with the same major-version(different minor-version maybe) need to ensure synchronization normally.
rtc won't start if local-graph's major-version not equal to remote-graph's
this PR also supports more convenient migration operations (when the major-version of the local graph does not match that of the remote graph).
Current Logseq DB Import Limitations
Luhman kindly shares his experience of importing notes into the Logseq DB versoin : Even though the team has been clear that Logseq DB is still an alpha product and have discouraged people from trying to use it for anything important, as the app gets better and better more and more people are naturally going to try to use it. I expect that to increase even more after the desktop version is released. So, to forestall any problems, I wanted to make people aware of some of the issues you will encounter if you try to import your existing graph into Logseq DB.
Check out his full comments here.
OBSIDIAN

Fixed issue with adjacent numbered lists being considered part of the same list and having incorrect list numbers applied.
Fixed issue where Shift-Enter inside a list did not add the correct indentation.
Fixed missing CSS variable --font-mermaid for setting a custom font in Mermaid graphs.
Web viewer: Clicking on results in the Web history view will open in the background if "Always focus new tabs" is turned off in Editor settings.
Web viewer: Fixed issue with "Clear web viewer data" not fully removing the stored session data.
Web viewer: Fixed issue with built-in Ad blocker not properly capturing web requests.
and more
My Obsidian workflow problem
Danny has a workflow problem in Obsidian and talks us through it:
What mistakes to avoid as a beginner?
OP asks What mistakes do you advise beginners not to make when working with obsidian? It seems to me that I create a lot of garbage records that are then lost. Clearly, I'm not working with tags correctly.
Lots of great responses and insight here.
I tried dozens of Personal Knowledge Management apps and I keep coming back to this tool
Parth writes: There is no shortage of Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) tools out there. Among them, finding a digital haven for your thoughts and knowledge can feel like searching for a unicorn. I have been trying out dozens of such apps, each promising the moon. But I always find myself circling back to one platform: Obsidian.

Read it later style app with highlights and notes
Op is looking for a read it later app and has already tried Raindrop, Omnivore, Readwise Reader, Obsidian and many more. Whenever I do something like this I always feel kinda petty like I’m just making up problems where there aren’t any, but at the same time, doesn’t anyone agree that it’s kind of ridiculous that there isn’t one app that can do a bunch of simple things in the same place and without charging an eye for it???
I’m aware of other apps like Goodlinks, but having to pay $50 (remember that I mentioned before that prices in my currency are much more expensive) before I can even see what the app is like is a bit too much… especially when there aren’t a lot of preview pictures or videos of it on the internet.

That’s all for this week. Thank you very much in advance for reading and I look forward to bringing you more PKM news next week.
